BoBoX: A Modular Storage System for the Urban Lifestyle

BoBoX was born out of the need for a storage solution that is easy to mount and dismount without the use of installation tools. The designers aimed to create a system that allows for endless design combinations while using lightweight and sustainable materials. Whether it's for residential interiors, offices, students' camps, or other public spaces, BoBoX offers a practical and stylish storage solution.

What sets BoBoX apart is its modular and lightweight design. The system utilizes a small set of extra thin and extra durable structural elements, allowing for a wide range of combinations and a playful user experience. The multifunctional connecting elements secure the joints and enable the mounting of doors or back panels at each box, providing additional functionality and customization options.

Assembly and disassembly of the BoBoX modular storage system is tool-free, making it incredibly convenient and user-friendly. The system is manufactured from 9mm birch plywood in two versions - natural and laminated. The natural version is waxed, while the laminated version features a smooth and highly resistant soft touch HPL surface. The 3D printed connectors and functional elements are made of highly-durable bio-based PLA, ensuring the longevity and sustainability of the design.

The BoBoX storage system is composed of only two types of structural elements - extra thin birch plywood panels and 3D printed multifunctional connectors. The panels come in two sizes - 320 x 320 mm and 320 x 640 mm, while the L, T, and X-shaped connectors secure the joints between them. Additional elements can be added to improve the functionality of the system, such as hinge doors, flap doors, and back panels.

One of the key advantages of BoBoX is its flat packing capability, allowing for easy transportation and reduced storage costs. The system also offers the flexibility to insert and remove doors and back panels at any time without the need to dismantle the entire structure, thanks to the innovative connecting system.

The BoBoX project underwent extensive research, experimentation, and prototyping to ensure its mechanical properties and optimal design. The designers tested different materials and connector parameters to achieve the highest strength-to-weight ratio and durability. The result is a storage system that combines functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability.

BoBoX has received recognition for its innovative design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2022. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life.
